teaching math
Hi! I'm Jeanette

Thanks for dropping by!

I’m Jeanette, a fellow k-6 teacher, ready to support and inspire you on your math teaching journey.

You see, teaching is my passion and after 25 years (and counting) as a teacher, I can truly say that I have the best ‘job’ in the world. As a seasoned teacher, I can also say that keeping all the parts of a busy elementary class running smoothly can be challenging.

That’s where I come in!

I am here to offer practical strategies and tips, and engaging resources that will help make the math part of your day a little easier (and more fun!)! Let’s get started by staying in touch!

I’d love for you to hang out with me on Pinterest or Instagram (be sure to say hello!) or jump on my mailing list below!

25 years of teaching? Yup! Here is the highlight reel...

As an elementary teacher, with a specialist in special education, I have spent most of my teaching career providing resource support for students struggling with math and language. This experience forced me to go beyond textbooks and standard algorithms to find meaningful strategies for teaching math to my students. It also taught me the importance of differentiation, student-centered practices, and the importance of instilling a growth mindset in the students I served.

After many years in special education, I had the unique experience of teaching math to grades 3 to 6 classrooms under the guidance of an amazing math mentor and advocate for teaching math through problem-solving. Over the 3 years I spent in this position, I saw the positive impact teaching math through problem-solving had on my students’ overall math performance, communication skills, and ability to see themselves as a “math person”. It was amazing to watch them transform into more confident mathematicians willing to take risks, make mistakes, and develop the ‘grit’ needed to solve math word problems.

I have also spent about 10 years in the classroom, teaching grades 3, 4, and 5. So I know, firsthand how challenging it can be to do all the things and still provide quality math instruction.

Fast forward to this school year…I am currently in my third year of teaching kindergarten. Kindergarten is seriously a world of its own (if you know, you know). My favourite part is the wonder and awe they possess, their ability to take risks, and, of course, teaching math in a play-based learning environment

When I'm not teaching...

When I’m not teaching you can find me staying active, exploring the outdoors (when it’s not too cold out), listening to an audiobook, or dancing in my kitchen while I cook something yummy. I also love sharing my passion for teaching math with educators like you with this blog, on social media, and through the products I create.

Some random facts about me...
  1. I have one child, and he is 30 years old.
  2. I recently revived my preteen love for rollerskating this summer.
  3. I can’t stand the taste of coffee, but I realized last year that if you add enough non-dairy milk and lots of caramel (aka caramel macchiato) it tastes like a dream!
  4. I taught vocal music one year on a whim even though I have a questionable singing voice – it turned out to be one of my most fun years of teaching!
  5. As Whitney Houston sang, I also truly believe “children are our future” and that teachers, just like YOU, can truly make a difference in a child’s life!

I'd love to share math teaching tips and strategies with you + freebies and new product releases. Join my mailing list to stay connected!
